"The bhang was stashed in seven gunny bags ferried along the Kaloleni - Mavueni route in the black Prado TX, which at the time bore registration nos. KDC 300L.

"The vehicle whose right rear tyre was punctured is believed to have been on top speed when it veered off the road, plunging into the ditch and forcing the occupants to flee from the scene," stated the DCI in part.

Upon search, registration plates KBQ 580K, KBZ 528N, KDA 639A & KDC 947C were found, with the latter linked to those used on parastatal vehicles.

"The seizure comes at a time when police countrywide have heightened the fight against drug abuse, trafficking in narcotics and sale & consumption of illicit brews.

"Meanwhile, the recovery has been secured as an exhibit and the vehicle detained, as the search for the perpetrators commences," added the DCI.

On Thursday, August 31, DCI staged an anti-drug operation that culminated in the arrest of two suspects, who were placed in police custody in connection with the ongoing operation targeting drug traffickers in the country.

A Nigerian national, Michael Adeyemi Adedji and a Kenyan, Selina Ndinda Ndonyo, were arrested at Umoja Innercore in Nairobi, by the Anti-Narcotics detectives who acted on intelligence leads.

The DCI beforehand arrested four foreigners believed to be Tanzanians and recovered dozens of pellets suspected to be cocaine from their house during a morning operation conducted at Beckvike homes in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

The crackdown also included illicit alcohol as police on Friday, September 1 staged multiple raids in Kiambu and Murang'a Counties, seizing suspected counterfeit alcohol from different brands.
