Primary School Closed Indefinitely After Body Parts Found In Toilet

Evojo Primary School in Vihiga County has been shut down indefinitely following a student's gruesome discovery of dismembered human remains in a latrine.
Deputy Headteacher Oscar Changilwa confirmed the disturbing incident on Tuesday, May 6, revealing that the remains were found by a pupil.
He narrated that the school day had just begun with early morning remedial classes when the shocking find was made.
Changilwa added that both students and staff had arrived at the school by 7 AM, completely unaware of the nightmare that was about to unfold.

"We are saddened that such an act has occurred. We just resumed school the other day after burying our headteacher. We arrived at the school and one of our pupils went to the toilet and came back telling us that he had seen a head in the toilet," he told reporters.
After the student raised the alarm, Changilwa and several teachers rushed to the latrine, where they confirmed the presence of human body parts.
"All the teachers ran to the scene, and when I poured water on it, I confirmed it was a human head. That is when I called the relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Education and Teachers' Service Commission (TSC) and DCI," he added.
The school promptly notified the DCI, the Ministry of Education, and local police, who have since taken over the investigation. The latrines were torn down, and all students were sent home.
This chilling discovery comes as another emotional hit for the school, which is still mourning the recent death of its headteacher. Officials have not yet revealed the identity of the victim or how the remains ended up in the school latrine.
Sadly, this horrifying case isn’t isolated—Kenya has seen a string of similar tragedies in recent times. From bodies being dumped in latrines to fatal toilet collapses, too many lives have been lost in such grim circumstances.
In one such case from March 2024, a 28-year-old nurse was found dead in a restroom at a therapy centre in Embu County. Reports stated that she had locked herself in and overdosed on painkillers. Her body was later found on the floor.
She had been seeking counselling for a troubled marriage, and early findings indicated she died by suicide.
Her passing sparked emotional reactions online, with friends urging people in toxic relationships to get professional help and prioritise healthy choices for themselves and their families.
