Azimio la Umoja coalition leader, Raila Odinga, has declared officially the start of countrywide mass action to compel President William Ruto to heed his demands.

He declared so on Thursday, March 9 after the lapse of the 14-day ultimatum the former Prime Minister issued to the Head of State.

"We now declare the beginning of mass action and announce that Ruto must go," Raila announced.

Among the demands he wants to be met are the opening of the 2022 presidential election servers and addressing the high cost of living.

"The high cost of living in Kenya is a result of massive looting of public resources and heartless withdrawal of subsidies to food, fuel and education by the Kenya Kwanza regime. To lower the cost of living and restore the dignity of our people, Ruto must go

"The over-taxation by this illegitimate regime is killing our businesses and damaging opportunities for investments. This must immediately stop for Kenya to economically recover. For this reason, Mr Ruto must go," Raila addressed.

He also termed the importation of GMOs by the Head of State and company as a scheme to destroy the country’s food basket and to make Kenyans slaves to American multinationals.

Raila further termed an attempt by the Kenya Kwanza regime to reconstitute the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) by forming a William Ruto commission as a reckless misadventure.

"The IEBC selection panel is a puppet of Mr Ruto's clique that intends to create seven Chebukatis who will aid him in stealing the 2027 elections," he went on.

He also went on to claim the contempt with which the Supreme Court treated the Azimio One Kenya presidential petition, terming it the epitome of judicial thuggery, and further claiming that the Supreme Court judges confirm Ruto’s complete judicial capture.

"Ruto is buying the legislature, influencing the Supreme Court and the sole executive decision maker. This is a dangerous dictator that must not be allowed even a single extra minute in public office. For this reason, Ruto must go," he added.

He further announced a mass protest set for March 20, 2023, which would see Azimio supporters stage an anti-Ruto procession in Nairobi.

In a press briefing that was conducted at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, the Azimio leaders alleged that the Kenya Kwanza leaders had failed the country.

"Today we make good a promise to Ruto and his illegitimate Kenya Kwanza regime. We unleash the people’s power for action and launch the Movement for the Defense of Democracy

"We are today launching a massive peaceful movement against an illegitimate, reckless, heartless, incompetent Kenya Kwanza regime. The people are now taking back all their delegated powers. It is now action time," Kalonzo stated.

Azimio principal, Martha Karua stated that the election of 2022 handed the country an illegitimate regime that is heartless, reckless and dictatorial, terming the Kenya Kwanza regime as dangerous for Kenya's democracy.

"This illegitimate regime heartlessly removed subsidies to food, unga, electricity, petrol, diesel and paraffin thereby increasing bus fares, removed subsidies to school fees and has made life unbearable to a majority of Kenyans

"We said that all subsidies to basic commodities must be restored and taxes must come down within 14 days. We said the process of disbanding and remaking the IEBC must stop completely because it was an exercise which is designed to create a William Ruto commission," she added, accusing President Ruto of instead launching a massive propaganda campaign against the subsidies program that was meant to secure the lives of millions of Kenyans from the harsh economic realities
