Najma Ismail, the Media Relations Director at State House, has clarified widespread reports of a looming State of the Nation address by President William Ruto on Monday, October 7.

As per the reports that circulated online, Ruto was expected to address the nation amidst a contested impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, with the Head of State largely steering clear of the matter ever since it came up in Parliament.

Per a media invite that Viral Tea has now determined that it is fake, the presser was scheduled to take place at the State House at 4 pm. However, Najma indicated that the announcement making rounds online is not from the Presidential Communication Service (PCS).

Meanwhile, Gachagua is set to hold a press conference on Monday evening, hours before his impeachment motion is debated in the National Assembly.

Gachagua’s office on Monday noon sent an invite to media houses, saying the address would be at his official residence in Karen at 7 pm.

The plot to impeach the deputy president continues to thicken with the process having undergone public participation over the weekend. Lawmakers numbering 291 appended their signatures in support of Gachagua's ouster proceedings.

The National Assembly began undertaking the public participation exercise at county levels across the country. On Friday, the exercise commenced in most centres across the country but was marred by challenges leading to confrontations among delegates, matters that forced the exercise to be extended by a day.

Gachagua is scheduled to appear before a special plenary session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 8, when he will put up his defence against the charges he is facing.

The DP has been accused of using his two sons, to allegedly, massively launder money, conceal proceeds of crime, corruption, and benefit from influence peddling.

Other grounds for impeachment include; going against the oath of office, violating the National Cohesion and Integration Act, amassing property illegally, and misleading the public on critical matters.
