"The driver sustained injuries, and some passengers escaped with minor injuries and are receiving medical attention. A rescue bus has been dispatched,” the statement read in part.
“We also wish to report another accident involving KCK 104 at Kibarani Overpass at 8:00 pm while headed to our yard. The bus was without passengers at the time of the incident. No fatalities have been reported, and those injured are currently receiving treatment at the Coast General Provincial Hospital.
“The safety and well-being of our passengers is our top priority. We are cooperating with authorities as they conduct their investigations. Thank you for your continued support and understanding,” the company stated.
In the wake of the Friday night accident, local MCA Frankline Makanga, popularly known as Hosanna, appealed to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Kenya National Highways Authority (KenHA) to install speed bumps along the stretch, lamenting that the area is turning into a black spot where numerous lives have already been lost in past incidents.
“We thank God that no fatalities arose from this accident. We are urging the traffic police officers, NTSA officials, and vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles are well-serviced at all times,” Makanga said, adding, “This tragedy could have been avoided if the NTSA officials did their job."
The crashes occurred just hours after another incident in Witeithie, Kiambu County, where several students were injured in a separate accident.
The students, from Mugoiri Girls High School, were heading home for the April holidays when the matatu they were traveling in lost control, veered off the road, and plunged into a ditch.
In the wake of these incidents, on Thursday, April 3, NTSA called on all players in the road transport sector to enforce stricter measures aimed at improving road safety. The Authority raised concerns over the recent surge in accidents, mostly blamed on reckless driving.
With students now home for the holidays, NTSA announced plans to closely monitor the conduct of PSV drivers and conductors, warning that anyone caught violating traffic rules could face severe consequences.
