Hours after Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer David Adedeji Adeleke OON, alias Davido declared that he would seek legal redress against K24, his lawyers have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the station's parent company.

In a demand letter by his global representatives and solicitors seen by Viral Tea, the Skelewu hitmaker whom they represent wants Mediamax Networks, K24's parent company, to immediately retract a story on his alleged arrest at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday.

They also want the media house to run an unreserved apology in not less than three national dailies in Kenya as well as Nigeria.

"It is in consequence of the aforestated that we demand for the immediate retraction and unreserved apology in not less than Three (3) National Dailies in Kenya (including but not limited to Nation Online, Standard Online and Citizen Online) and Nigeria (including but not limited to This Day, Vanguard and Punch Newspaper) including but not limited to online publications as well as all your social media platforms within 48 hours of your receipt of this notice," the demand letter read in part.

The lawyers warned that failure of Mediamax to adhere to their demands would lead to them causing an action to be instituted for libel against the media organization with its attendant consequences, without further recourse to them.

"We, therefore, hope that you will allow wise counsel to prevail and make the above-intended steps unnecessary," added the letter.

This comes after Davido addressed the story on his alleged arrest at JKIA on Sunday, March 31 by the Anti-Narcotics Police Unit alongside his seven crew members following a search on his private jet, where narcotic drugs were found.

According to him, he was alerted by a series of phone calls regarding the false report which came after he performed at the Raha Fest, which was held in Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi on Saturday night, March 30.

"I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely untrue. I successfully completed my scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and have since returned home to Nigeria," he addressed in his statement.

The star musician, regarded as one of the most important Afrobeats artists of the 21st century, further noted that he has never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world.

While finding the allegations irresponsible even though the story was published in light of April Fools Day on Monday, April 1, Davido added that he instructed his lawyer to institute legal action against K24 under Mediamax Networks Limited.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) flagged the news article published by K24 on Monday.

The media outlet, which is yet to respond to the demand letter from Davido's lawyer by the time of going to press, also released a statement maintaining that the editorial piece was part of its April Fools' Day content.
