Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations' (DCI) Anti-Narcotics Unit recovered 300 grammes of heroin worth Ksh1.2 million from a house belonging to a university student whom they arrested.

In a statement on Thursday, February 1, DCI revealed that the officers were deployed from the Moi International Airport (MIA) in Mombasa to the house belonging to the 24-year-old student.

"The Moi International Airport Anti-narcotics officers based in Mombasa yesterday recovered 300g of heroin from the house of a 24-year-old Technical University of Mombasa student.

"The detectives were acting on an intelligence report, which also led to the arrest of the student at his Mshomoroni house, Kisauni sub-county," stated DCI in part.

During the bust, the heroin drug was found wrapped in a clear polythene bag, bearing a brownish/whitish substance with an estimated street value of Ksh1.2 million

The narcotic was tested on-site, turning positive for heroin and thereafter secured as an exhibit pending further sampling at the government chemist, as the suspect awaits arraignment on Thursday.

DCI's Anti-Narcotics Unit has been working on overdrive with a series of drug busts in its mission to eliminate illegal drugs from circulation in the country.

In this case, the detectives were stationed at the international airport which is seen as a major entry point in and out of Kenya, preventing persons from smuggling illegal drugs in a manner that can easily flummox hawk-eyed authorities.

On Wednesday, January 31, the Anti-Narcotic Unit officers were in action and supported by the Operations team, they acted on intelligence regarding persons involved in narcotics trafficking.

Thanks to the intelligence, they raided the residence of a suspected trafficker within the Kamulu area along Kangundo Road.

"Upon conducting a search in his two houses, they managed to recover dry plant materials suspected to be narcotic drugs (Cannabis sativa) weighing approximately 15kg.

"The suspect, with his three accomplices namely Mario Amukula, Josephine Shimunza and Shirimana Dorine allegedly from Burundi who had no identification documents were arrested and escorted to Kasarani Police Station and placed in custody," stated the DCI at the time.

The exhibit was secured as the four awaited arraignment.
