The body of former National Treasury official Tom Osinde, who was reported missing on Sunday, June 18, was found in River Kuja, Migori County.

Police said that the body was found on June 22 and had been lying in the mortuary without officials knowing that it was him.

He was identified by the family as well as the two suspects who were arrested in connection with Osinde's disappearance after Kamagambo police officers picked up his body.

Police also recovered polythene papers the suspects used in choking Osinde as well as some of his personal items from a farm where his vandalised car was found abandoned on June 22.

Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin confirmed the discovery and identification of Osinde's body and his brother, Enock Nemwel Osinde, ending the long search for his elder brother.

“Thank you, friends, for your outpouring of love, prayers and support during my brother's search.

"Unfortunately, the outcome isn't the one we anticipated. Tom was killed and his body was found in Migori County. Please continue praying for us as try to come to terms," he wrote on social media.

The discovery came following the arrest of the two suspects in connection with the disappearance, with Rongai DCIO Donnata Otieno stating that the suspects in custody were some of the employees at a farm in Trans Mara West, Narok County, where Osinde's vehicle was discovered on Saturday, June 24 vandalised and abandoned.

Otieno added that detectives carried out a search from Osinde's homestead, including the farm which stretched over 10 acres and that the suspects would play a crucial role in ongoing investigations.

Osinde, who lives in Ngata Farm, Nakuru, is the brother of the late Ambassador Ken Nyauncho Osinde, who served in Germany between 2010 and 2014. He was reported missing on his way from Nakuru en route to Kisii.

His farmhand, who spoke to the media, revealed that Osinde had sent him to meet an unidentified lady prior to his trip to Kisii, alleging that he offered him some money alongside strict instructions to accomplish the assignment, without disclosing the number of the lady he was supposed to meet.

"There was a place he sent me, uninformed of the woman's identity. The woman was to identify me by how I was dressed.

"Before I left, he had spoken with the lady on the phone. As he had instructed, I went to the petrol station, and the woman positively identified me, adding that he delivered the money," claimed the farmhand.

Another farmhand revealed that they were grilled by the DCI in Nakuru over Osinde's disappearance and were asked for specific information that would help trace him.

His family members added that they also spoke with him on the fateful day before he left for Kisii, however, they did not reveal the details of the conversation.

Osinde's black Toyota Land Cruiser V8 was stripped of its license plates before it was found dumped in Kilgoris, Transmara West, Narok. Area police officers noted that the vehicle was traced by detectives following a tip-off by concerned Narok residents.
