Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, June 28 arrested two suspects in connection to the disappearance of former National Treasury employee Tom Osinde.

Rongai DCIO Donnata Otieno, while confirming the arrest, stated that the suspects currently in custody were some of the employees at a farm in Trans Mara West, Narok County, where Osinde's vehicle was discovered on Saturday, June 24 vandalised and abandoned.

Otieno added that detectives carried out a search from Osinde's homestead, including the farm which stretched over 10 acres and that the suspects would play a crucial role in ongoing investigations.

“We were conducting a search from the homestead of the victim, the farm is over 10 acres and we went through seven acres and nothing has been recovered.

“We have two suspects in custody but they are assisting us in our investigations," the DCIO told Citizen TV.

Otieno further noted that the officers are still combing the 10 acres of land where the vehicle was found with the hope of finding Osinde.

She added that the suspects are being held on abduction allegations while dismissing the possibility that Osinde could have been murdered.

“The victim is a public figure, a human being and our core value is to protect life and property, we will search and trace his whereabouts whether dead or alive.

“Right now we cannot say he is dead, the suspects are held in allegations of abduction. We have been at the farm for close to 3 hours, the probability whether he is dead or alive...we are looking for a grave or septic tank,” she added.

Osinde, who lives in Ngata Farm, Nakuru, is the brother of the late Ambassador Ken Nyauncho Osinde, who served in Germany between 2010 and 2014. He was reported missing on his way from Nakuru en route to Kisii.

His farmhand, who spoke to the media, revealed that Osinde had sent him to meet an unidentified lady prior to his trip to Kisii, alleging that he offered him some money alongside strict instructions to accomplish the assignment, without disclosing the number of the lady he was supposed to meet.

"There was a place he sent me, uninformed of the woman's identity. The woman was to identify me by how I was dressed.

"Before I left, he had spoken with the lady on the phone. As he had instructed, I went to the petrol station, and the woman positively identified me, adding that he delivered the money," claimed the farmhand.

Another farmhand revealed that they were grilled by the DCI in Nakuru over Osinde's disappearance and were asked for specific information that would help trace him.

His family members added that they also spoke with him on the fateful day before he left for Kisii, however, they did not reveal the details of the conversation.

"The most important thing is to help bring him back alive. As of now, everyone is trying to ensure that our kin is safe and sound," a family spokesperson maintained.

Osinde's black Toyota Land Cruiser V8 was stripped of its license plates before it was found dumped in Kilgoris, Transmara West, Narok. Area police officers noted that the vehicle was traced by detectives following a tip-off by concerned Narok residents.
