On Sunday, November 5, reports went rife on social media regarding two Kenya Airways planes alleged to have crash-landed at Fedha, Embakasi in Nairobi.

The reports carried by some local outlets as breaking news claimed that the planes had landed at the residential area with only their fuselage intact and their wings and tails missing.

"A plane lands at Fedha Embakasi. The pilot has been arrested as investigations take place though a lot of traffic is being witnessed in the area," the reports claimed.

Viral Tea can however authoritatively report that the information was misleading, with aviation sources informing us that the photos depicted the planes being transported.

The national airline revealed on Monday, November 6 that it was relocating two of its retired aircraft to The Pride Centre, which is Kenya Airways' main training facility that can handle a maximum of 530 participants at any given go.

"We have relocated two of our retired aircraft, a B737-700 and an Embraer E190-100, both of which had served for over 20 years. These aircraft were transported to The Pride Centre, Kenya Airways' training facility with the aim of enhancing training programmes.

"This move will allow the training academy to expand its existing practical and theoretical training services to third-party operators and airlines within the country and the region," stated the airline, which shared a video showcasing how the relocation was done.

The moving, which took an entire day, saw the fuselage of the Embraer harnessed onto a special trailer and moved from KQ's hangar at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to the training centre.

To facilitate the smooth process, transport logistics company DB Schenker issued a traffic advisory affecting motorists using Airport North Road as the two decommissioned planes were transported through a roundabout.

The wide load was transported through the Kenya Airways Head Quarter - Police Barracks - Roundabout- Wrongside Upto Naivas through to the Coca-Cola Gate - Kenya Airways Pride Centre route on Sunday.

The logistics company had categorised the transportation of the plane as an abnormally wide load, meaning motorists were advised to exercise great caution while using the route.

Those who have options of using alternative routes were also encouraged to consider the same given that such transportation leads to delays and traffic snarl-ups. This is mostly witnessed when the trucks have to negotiate sharp corners or go around a roundabout.

The KQ Pride Centre is accredited by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and The International Air Transport Association (IATA) to conduct all the training.

It offers three diploma courses and three certificate courses for the new beginners to the Aviation Industry.
