Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina has been airlifted to a hospital in Nairobi after she was attacked by goons during a meeting she was attending in Kerugoya Town.

A video seen by Viral Tea showed her escaping on foot as the mob caused a commotion that put her life at risk before police intervened to calm the situation.

She was ferried to Kerugoya Hospital for medical attention before being airlifted to Nairobi for a medical emergency, with photos seen by Viral Tea showing her head shaved with medics pushing her on a wheelchair towards a waiting helicopter, indicating that she incurred injuries on her head.

Speaking to the media following the attack, Maina claimed that she was targeted by people known to her, sent by her political enemies.

According to her, everything was going on well at the political function until a group of youths on motorbikes invaded the function and attacked her.

"A group of young people came on motorcycles, and they are people I know. I have shed blood, but I must advocate for the people of Kirinyaga.

"I will not leave Kirinyaga, I have been elected here, and I must fight for the people of Kirinyaga to get their right to water,” she stated.

Maina further claimed that the hired goons attacked women and disabled people who had come to her function.

She was accosted during a meet-the-people tour in Kerugoya town when she was blocked by goons who wanted to bar her from addressing the people.

The Woman Rep, who was on foot, was in the company of Baragwi Ward MCA David Mathenge who was also caught up in the fracas. The leaders fled to their cars before being driven to Kerugoya Hospital where they were treated.

Before the fracas, Maina and Mathenge were planning to meet journalists to speak on matters regarding the development of Kirinyaga.

As a result of the commotion, several cars which had been used to transport the leaders were also damaged, with many windshields broken.

The Woman Rep further claimed that a senior politician in the County sponsored the premeditated attack on her, adding that it was meant to frustrate her political motives. However, she vowed to carry on and work closely with President William Ruto's administration.

Maina's supporters called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure that those behind the attack are brought to book, especially those who sponsored the attack.

Viral Tea was independently unable to verify her claims, as well as establish the politician who allegedly sponsored the daring attack.
