The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya, to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) final on August 30, 2025.

The tournament will kick off on August 2, 2025, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, marking CHAN’s return to East Africa for the first time since the 2016 edition in Rwanda.

Uganda, the third co-host, will handle the tournament’s third and fourth matches, which feature only players active in their home countries' leagues.

"The Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda, has been designated to host the third and fourth match of the event. Kenya’s Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi will host the Final match of the Competition on 30 August 2025," CAF stated in part on Thursday, June 19.

The championship, originally scheduled for February 1 to 28, was pushed back to allow the host countries more time to prepare their facilities.

Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will use the CHAN tournament as a trial run ahead of co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Besides Kasarani, Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium—currently under renovation—will also host several matches during the three-week tournament.

In a notable move aimed at inclusivity, CAF has added Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium to the list of official venues, signalling a push to broaden the tournament’s geographical footprint.

Amaan Stadium recently gained prominence after successfully hosting the 2025 CAF Confederation Cup Final between Simba SC and RSB Berkane, earning high marks for both organisation and fan turnout.

The group stage matches will be split among the four host cities. Nairobi will feature Group A, which includes Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia.

Dar es Salaam will host Group B with Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic.

Kampala will handle Group C, featuring Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria.

Group D will be played in Zanzibar, showcasing Senegal, Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria. Notably, Congo stepped in to replace Equatorial Guinea in Group D following a CAF Appeals Board decision.
