Kenya Police Football Club (FC) on Sunday, June 15, won the 2024/25 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League, their first-ever league title, following a 1-0 win over Shabana FC at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

Brian Okoth's powerful header in the 77th minute proved decisive, handing Police FC head coach Etienne Ndayiragije his first major title in his debut season at the club.

Police entered the fixture needing just a single point to secure the league crown, having amassed 61 points, five ahead of nearest rivals Gor Mahia, who had been enjoying dominance in the Kenyan Premier League before today.

However, the task was anything but straightforward against a resilient Shabana FC side that had only suffered two defeats all season. Shabana's dynamic duo, Brian Michira and Austine ‘Lastborn’ Odongo, frequently displayed the flair and skill that have helped the club climb to fifth place in the standings.

Despite the pressure, Okoth’s goal was enough to seal the title for Police FC, who lifted the FKF Cup last season and made their CAF Confederation Cup debut.

The 11-year-old club will wrap up their campaign next weekend with a high-stakes clash against former champions Gor Mahia at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, who managed a 3-2 victory over Ulinzi Stars, but it was ultimately a case of too little, too late.

Police FC’s win brought to an end Gor Mahia’s dominance, having won the league 21 times.

Why This League Title Is Important For Police FC

Kenya Police FC's Premier League triumph stands out for several compelling reasons. Established in 2014, the club has experienced a steady rise through the ranks of Kenyan football.

Popularly known as 'Makarao,' the team earned promotion to the top flight in 2021. At the time, sceptics dismissed them as unlikely to last long in the Premier League.

However, the 2023–24 season saw them silence critics with a remarkable third-place finish, solidifying their status as a serious contender in the top tier. That same season, they also captured the FKF President’s Cup for the first time in the club’s history, securing a berth in the 2024–25 CAF Confederation Cup.

A pivotal moment came in November 2024 with the appointment of Burundian tactician Etienne Ndayiragije, whose leadership proved instrumental in their championship-winning campaign.

With this historic league title, Kenya Police FC are set to receive multiple honours, including a Ksh5 million cash prize and the Premier League trophy.

Their success also earns them a place in the CAF Champions League—the continent’s most prestigious club competition—where they will represent Kenya alongside Africa’s elite teams.
