Nominated Senator, Hezena Lemaletian, has announced that she has called off her engagement with her man and returned Ksh100,000 dowry, revealing what she termed as background checks conducted by her family elders prior to the marriage.

Hezena, on Friday, May 16, stated that she found it necessary to formally communicate the developments following "continuous malicious media attacks on me despite my silence and respect to both families."

In October 2024, Lemaletian revealed her engagement during a traditional ceremony and shared the happy news on social media.

She praised her fiancé, Dr Hussein ML, as “a fine top brain” and affirmed her dedication to their relationship, a social media post she says she now deeply regrets.

"I recently, DEEPLY REGRETTABLY, posted that someone went to ask for my hand in marriage in what Samburu would call an ambush (siamu), as you all saw. The due procedure of the Samburu culture is that a background check must be conducted before the marriage. And so it was, and THOROUGHLY," she wrote in part.

However, the results of the background check would spell doom for the engagement, even though she did not specify what exactly prompted the elders to cancel the marriage process altogether.

She clarified that the Ksh 100,000 dowry offered during the initial negotiations was returned, and the engagement was formally called off as of January 2025.

"The elders of my family, therefore, halted the whole process after the background check and refused to accept dowry from that person, and as such, the whole process was immediately cancelled as of January 2025. All necessary steps were taken to ensure the conclusion to a COMPLETE final, including the return of the 100k that the elders were handed at the meeting," she added.

She went on to clarify that, contrary to recent claims, she is not married and has no intention of marrying the person in question. Nonetheless, Lemaletian thanked her family elders for their guidance and support, saying their role felt like that of a father figure and adding that her late father would have been proud.

She also asked for privacy for her family during this time and warned that any future attempts to tarnish her reputation would be met with legal action.

"Therefore, allegations that I was married are false and unfounded, and I shall also not be married to that person whatsoever. I deeply thank our elders. No amount of words can express my gratitude for being involved in my life like my father would if he were here with us today.

"I respect the decisions of our elders and I hold them in very high regard and esteem(my fathers). My family and I request total privacy moving forward on this matter. Anything else that will slander my name out of failure to accept these decisions and move on will be handled legally," she concluded.

At the time of the announcement, Lemaletian, nicknamed the most beautiful Kenyan politician, posted a video from her engagement ceremony, featuring a convoy of luxurious cars heading toward a stunning mansion nestled in a peaceful, tree-lined village.

She had openly declared her love for her partner, vowing to honour and respect him. She playfully described him as one-of-a-kind, joking that he was made from a fabric that doesn’t even exist.

Lemaletian first teased details of her relationship during a 2023 interview with NTV, where she responded to a comment on how men were willing to slide in her Direct Messages (DMs), saying, "Just keep throwing those pickup lines. The good thing is it won't be me reading my inbox...the password is out there somewhere."

Since exploding into the limelight on December 10, 2021, during her public address at the Azimio La Umoja National Convention held at Kasarani Stadium, she has won over thousands of men countrywide, among others who have been instrumental in her rise from the Queen of the North to the Senate seat.
