The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the partial closure of Uhuru Highway, Parliament Road and Aerodrome Road.

In a statement on Thursday, November 23, KURA revealed that the temporary closure will last eight hours on Sunday, November 26 from 6.00 am to 2.00 pm.

"Please note that sections of Uhuru Highway, Parliament Road, Aerodrome Road and Parliament Road will be closed on Sunday, 26th November 2023 as from 6AM till 2PM," stated KURA in part.

The Authority attributed the partial closure to a planned mass bike race set to begin at the Central Business district (CBD).

KURA advised motorists to follow alternative routes as guided by traffic marshals while the event takes place.

"This is due to the Grand Nairobi Bike Race schedule to take place at KICC, Nairobi. We urge motorists to use alternative routes as guided by traffic marshalls present during the event," added KURA.

As per the route map, the race will commence at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) and head down Uhuru highway before accessing Lang'ata Road via the Nyayo Stadium roundabout.

The cyclists will go past the road crossing over the Southern Bypass before making a U-turn at a checkpoint along the road, and head back to Uhuru Highway using Aerodrome Road.

It is along this road where heavy activity will be expected as there will be a water and medical point set up in that area.

It is worth noting that another water and medical point has been set up between Wilson Airport and Uhuru Gardens.

The race powered by Grand Nairobi Bike Race (GNBR) is targeting 2,500 international participants and cycling enthusiasts from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Burundi, Congo for a day of fun as well as advocacy on wellness, inclusivity, and environmental conservation.

It will consist of 6 categories: Kiddies Track, Black Mamba (48kms), Family Fun Ride (10km), Individual Race, Physically Challenged Race (48 Kms) and the Main Race (80kms).
