Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, February 6 recovered stolen goods worth over Ksh9.5 million from a godown in Embakasi raided by three robbers.

In their statement, the DCI noted that the trio, Haron Wachira, Dennis Onkoba and Wambua Mutua were arrested hours after the incident in the Kasikeu area within Makueni County.

The suspects had fled with the merchandise belonging to Bu-mat distributors, in a lorry when they were surrounded by the detectives.

"The goods included smart speakers worth over Ksh6 million, kitchenware and other goods that had been loaded into a Mitsubishi canter registration number KCY 285W and were headed for the black market," stated the DCI in part.

The suspects are currently in custody and being processed to answer to charges of robbery with violence.

This comes after two robbers who were intercepted by police in Kisumu's Maseno area carrying stolen goods tried to fend them off by threatening them with a fake pistol, which worked against them. They had escaped the dragnet of four police officers based at Kogony Police post before dawn.

They were heading back to their camp after a dusk-to-dawn patrol, satisfied that the night was calm for area residents. Suddenly, a suspicious motorcycle with its rider and a pillion passenger revved past them in the Whitestone area.

"An attempt by police constable Ben Parapara to flag it down was met with a choking cloud of dust from the two wheels spinning fast past the squad.

"In retaliation, the officers gave chase, provoking the pillion passenger to draw and point at them an imitation of a pistol, as a desperate measure to scare them off," stated the DCI in part.

Following the move, a warning shot from a G3 rifle was triggered by the officers, sending the bike into a ditch.

However, the suspects scampered fast into a nearby thicket, leaving behind the motorcycle, fake firearm, a crowbar and the suspected stolen property.

The stolen property included a flat-screen TV set, two gas cylinders (5kg and 13kg) two token feeders, an electricity meter, an iron box, a pair of leather shoes and other household items.
