February is known by many as the month of love and as of now, Kenyans are doing everything in their power to win over their lovers ahead of Valentine's Day on Tuesday, February 14.

Take for instance this female student from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) who received a rather unorthodox surprise from her boyfriend on Wednesday, February 1.

A video seen by Viral Tea and posted by one Eddiest on Twitter went viral and captured the well-built man gripping his guitar and serenading his sweetheart with his melodious voice.

As the young woman was left tickled, beaming smiles on her face, other female students could be seen peeking outside their doors to catch a glimpse of what is happening and some even recorded the proceedings, presumably for safekeeping or for sharing on their own social media accounts.

Watch the video:

"Huyu jamaa ameenda pale JKUAT kuimbia dem yake kwa hostels (This guy went to JKUAT hostels to sing for his girlfriend). Love is a beautiful thing," Eddiest wrote.

By the time of publication, the post was quoted 219 times, viewed over 69,800 times, retweeted by 151 people and liked by 737 others. It also received 223 comments.

"Hello JKUAT peeps. I am looking for this guy mwenye anaplay (who is playing the) guitar, there's someone who is looking for him," he added, though not revealing the identity of the person searching for him.

Despite the numerous reactions, one user claimed that the man is a musical artist and was singing at the JKUAT hostels to market his own craft.

"Naaah this is a lie, this guy is an artist, and he sings in JKUAT hostels just to market himself and his music, you are so dumb to jump to conclusions. I've been there, and seen him sing," wrote Badgurlriri.

Another user alleged to have paid a saxophonist, guitarist and a singer all at once as well as contracted singer Bensoul to serenade his former girlfriend at her place of work.

With the month of love comes an increase in marriage proposals, relationship proposals, lovey-dovey poems and for businesspeople, an opportunity to mint millions of shillings from Kenyans willing to spend lavishly on vacation getaways, boxes of chocolates, rose flowers among others to impress their significant other...or potentials.

One thing Kenyan men will however want to avoid is taking the same route digital Media Consultant and Marketer, Kevin Mboya did when he travelled from Nairobi to Kwale to surprise his girlfriend on her birthday, making a total of over 1,000 kilometres between the two towns; from Nairobi to Kwale and back.

Mboya revealed on his YouTube channel on Monday, January 30 that he had purchased the bouquet of flowers at City Market before heading to Syokimau, at the Nairobi Terminus Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) station where he boarded a train to his intended destination.

“The whole thing began on Wednesday at 11 am when I left my house to go to town, I went to City Market and bought the flowers. I had already booked an SGR train that was leaving at 3 pm, I boarded the train and along the way, I was thinking about how things would go because I had not told her and we were having issues so I thought I could use that opportunity since the next day was her birthday.

"I travelled well and arrived at 8:10 pm, I spent the night at my friend’s place and the following day," he revealed.

Because the SGR trip concluded in Mombasa, Mboya departed the coastal city the following day towards Kwale, where he showed up at her girlfriend's office armed with the bouquet of flowers for the surprise; she was celebrating her birthday at the time.

He informed a receptionist there that he arrived to see her, at which point he was directed to sit in an area to wait for her.

Hours later, the receptionist informed him that they were closing the office for the day, and fearing that she would not show up, he tried reaching out to her once more and sent her a text on WhatsApp, despite her being offline.

"The next day it dawned on me that maybe this lady doesn’t want anything to do with me. I decided to come back to Nairobi," he went on.

Mboya lamented that she has not responded to his message to date and could not see her status on WhatsApp. Not knowing what had transpired, he explained that he had to return with the flowers because he was unable to find her.

His ordeal which he shared in a post on Twitter sparked an outpouring of mixed reactions online and increased when he became unresponsive for two days on the platform.

Politician cum businessman Alinur Mohamed offered to pay for his one-week vacation to Dubai and Ksh700,000 for his use if he finds him. He would later be surprised by a local touring company for an all-expenses paid trip to Mombasa.
