UPDATE: A woman who interrupted President William Ruto's speech revealed why she did it, noting that she was seeking Ksh400,000 from the Head of State to help her son travel to the United States (US).

She revealed to the media that her son, John Kairu Gichohi, works as a matatu tout in Nyeri County and has three children whom he is unable to fend for. She added that she was close to taking her own life before she turned to the president for further assistance.

"I came to president Ruto to assist me with Ksh400,000 to aid my son, John Kairu Gichohi who is travelling to the United States of America. My son is a matatu tout in Nyeri and has three children who are sent home on numerous occasions due to fee arrears.

"So I sought an audience with the president because I wanted to take my life because of a lot of problems facing my family. My only hope is based on my son. He will go abroad and do any form of work provided he earns the funds necessary to help us here. Politician, Mukami has assured me that I will get an audience with the president. Even if he gets employment from the government, I will be very happy," she said.

President William Ruto was forced to comfort a woman who had interrupted him just as he began giving his speech at the burial of Jackson Reriani Gachagua, brother to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

At the event in Mathira, Nyeri County on Tuesday, October 4, Ruto appeared to calm down the mourner who was causing dramatic scenes even as other guests had moved in to restrain her.

The Head of State assured her that First Lady Rachel Ruto, also in attendance at the funeral, was ready to comfort her.

"Keti tu chini, ntakuona baadaye. Mama Rachel yuko hapa atakuona (Please sit, I'll meet with you after. Mama Rachel is here, she will comfort you)," Ruto assured her.

During his address, President Ruto thanked the residents of Nyeri County for coming out in numbers to vote for Ruto and Gachagua during the August 9 general elections, one of the key battles that ensured their victory.

"Kenya has earned a place of respect in the community of nations, as a country that can prosecute its affairs on issues have peaceful elections where we vote and the next day go back to work," he praised.

The Head of State praised Gachagua as a hardworker, adding that there was no way he could fail while surrounded by dedicated people in his government.

"As the executive, we will do our bit. I want to ask the legislature and the judiciary to do their bit so that we can serve the interest of the 50 million Kenyans and especially those who voted for us," he added.

Revisiting the matter of fertilisers, Ruto said that his administration would not only lower the cost of it to Ksh2,500, but it would also support farmers so that they can produce enough food for Kenya.

"We competed with former President Uhuru Kenyatta alongside former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Now the elections are over. Those left in the opposition will keep correcting us and we don't have a problem," he added.

On his part, DP Gachagua praised his late brother as a man who took care of his school fees from Form 1 to Form 6 and was grateful for the opportunity to thank him. This is as he encouraged Kenyans to look after their siblings.

"Electing President William Ruto is not enough, he must succeed and turn around this country. Whatever duties you give me I will perform them with military precision," he said.
