"Say hello to the newest award-winning writer in town. I forgot to update you that my book won the Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature on Saturday.

"Thank you all for cheering me on. In other news, I have something hooot for you guys dropping soon," she wrote on Facebook.

Chadi's Trip describes the story of a plague called Shaka Risha which threatens to wipe out the village of Kalole. With many warriors sent to the forest to find a cure, Chadi is challenged to succeed against the odds, where the bravest warriors have failed.

Haluwa was recognised as a scribe who rattled many and entertained others thanks to her popular column Fireworks featured in the weekly Nairobian newspaper, a subsidiary of SMG.

The column was known for shooting in the hips of men and women, with a majority of the content centered on relationships and sex amongst both Kenyan men and women in line with changing trends.

It is her literary works that she has carried on to her Facebook page which further increased her popularity owing to the huge numbers on the platform.

The literary award was announced during the Nairobi International Book Fair (NIBF) held for the first time since 2019 owing to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature dates back to 1974, and the Wahome Mutahi Literary prize, which was awarded for the first time in 2006 and is held the honour of the late humorist, journalist, thespian and published author.

Haluwa's book was nominated alongside The Yao Stories by Seth Mboya (Storymoja) and The Secret Wish by Jennie Marima (Setmark)
