WIFA continues to champion women in the industry, ensuring their stories are told, their talent recognized, and their impact felt worldwide.

The Women in Film Awards (WIFA) marked its sixth edition with a grand celebration at the Kenya National Theatre, recognizing outstanding female filmmakers who are breaking barriers in the country’s creative industry. The event, held in partnership with Gordon’s, honored excellence in directing, screenwriting, cinematography, and production.
Dr. Susan Gitimu, the visionary founder of WIFA, emphasized the importance of sustained support and mentorship for women in film, highlighting the impact of fostering a more inclusive industry.
“WIFA is more than just an awards ceremony; it is a movement. It is about acknowledging talent, creating opportunities, and advocating for inclusivity. The growth of WIFA is a testament to the resilience of female creatives, and we are grateful for partners like Gordon’s who share our vision of empowering women in film,” Dr. Gitimu stated.
Echoing this sentiment, Zipporah Ndung’u, Senior Brand Manager at Gordon’s Kenya, reiterated the brand’s commitment to recognizing and uplifting women in the film industry.

The women recognized tonight are reshaping the creative landscape, pushing boundaries, and telling important stories. By partnering with WIFA, we stand with them, ensuring they receive the recognition they deserve while inspiring the next generation of female filmmakers,” said Ndung’u.
The evening was a powerful showcase of talent, resilience, and progress in the industry. Attendees, including industry leaders, filmmakers, and aspiring creatives, came together to network, celebrate, and reflect on the strides made toward gender equality in film.
In addition to honoring top female filmmakers, guests enjoyed expertly crafted cocktails by Gordon’s, creating an atmosphere of celebration and camaraderie.
The event also served as a fitting tribute to International Women’s Day, reinforcing WIFA’s mission to elevate women’s voices in cinema and pave the way for greater representation on the global stage.
