Reason Behind AFC Leopards Coach's Social Media Jibes On Tusker Coach

Tusker lived it late to dispatch AFC Leopards by a solitary goal in an FKF Premier League fixture played at the Nyayo National Stadium but it was the two coaches’ war of words that highlighted the events of the afternoon.

The two coaches, who are not new to controversy, exchanged obscene words on the touchline in what many would term unprofessional from the two. Aussems and Matano have been accused of undermining journalists in the past by hurling unprintables towards them and this was perhaps a battle of two titans.

It all started when Aussems held on to the ball late in the game preventing Tusker FC from executing a quick restart, an action that angered Tusker’s gaffer. Matano crossed to Leopard’s technical area and shoved Aussems in a bid to express his disappointment.

After the game, Aussems in a revenge mission crossed over to Tusker’s area to confront Matano and a scuffle ensued. It took the intervention of several people including the match day officials and stewards to bring things to order but the spat did not end there.

On Thursday evening, April 6, Patrick Aussems took to social media to congratulate Tusker FC players while throwing Matano under the bus.

“Unfortunately we have been punished at the last minute due to a lack of aggressiveness! Congrats to the Tusker players” Aussems wrote on his Twitter handle.

However, in the same Tweet, he labelled Matano ‘an old coach with no international experience’, while also insinuating that the Tusker tactician, who has won the top-tier trophy with Tusker and Sofapaka, practices vodoo.

Many believe that the beef started when Matano addressed AFC Leopards players in December last year after their loss to Posta Rangers without the knowledge of the Belgian tactician.

The spat also came after Aussems recently called a journalist ‘stupid’ in a post-match interview after Leopard’s barren draw at Sudi Stadium. Matano has also been accused of undermining a journalist after he lashed out at one in the past telling him not to ask him ‘stupid questions’.

Many will wait to see if the FKF will take disciplinary action against the two coaches for their actions during and after the game.
