Nyanza region DCI boss, John Onyango, was moved to the headquarters as the Head of the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB).

Marsabit County Criminal Investigations Officer, Bethuel Oburu, was promoted by Amin to lead the Central Kenya offices.

DCI boss in Kisumu County Francis Wanjau was promoted to lead the Rift Valley Regional DCI headquarters.

Abdallah Komesha, who was in charge of the National Centre for Counter-terrorism, was transferred to the DCI Headquarters as Head of Personnel.

Amin said that the changes take effect immediately. He promised to serve with integrity and professionalism while upholding the rule of law.

"This is a new chapter for the DCI and I want to promise the president and the people of Kenya that I will not let you down. I am ready for the task and ready to lead the DCI to deal with the challenges of our time," he said.

"We shall try as much as possible to work in collaboration with other security agencies such as the EAC, KPS, APS and other actors of the criminal justice system including the ODPP, Judiciary amongst others for purposes of serving Kenyans without prejudice."

The changes come amidst investigations into cases of extra-judicial killings carried out allegedly by DCI officers. So far, nine of them attached to the disbanded Special Service Unit (SSU) have been arrested in connection to the disappearance of two Indian nationals.

They include Peter Muthee Gachiku, Francis Ndonye, John Mwangi, Joseph Kamau, Joseph Mwenda, David Chepcheng, Stephen Luseno, Paul Njogu and Simon Muhunga.
