Judiciary To Increase Security After Police Officer Shoots Makadara Law Courts Magistrate
The Judiciary wished a quick recovery to one of its own and sent its condolences to the family of the officer who lost his life in this unfortunate incident.

The Judiciary has condemned the shooting of a Principal Magistrate which occurred at the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi County.
In a statement, Winfridah Mokaya, the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, learnt of the shooting incident that occurred earlier on Thursday, June 13 after the Magistrate cancelled the bond for an accused person who had jumped bond and had failed to offer satisfactory explanations for jumping bond.
"Immediately this decision was pronounced, a person shot at the Magistrate and injured her on the hip. Police Officers in the scene responded and neutralized the shooter, and the Magistrate was rushed to hospital for treatment," the statement read in part.
"Preliminary reports indicate that the shooter is a Police Officer who is married to the suspect."

While appealing for calm from all court users ahead of investigations, the Judiciary assured all its Judicial Officers, Staff and Court Users of their safety and security across all its premises.
"We will enhance our security protocols for civilians visiting our courts as well as security officers who visit courts in circumstances that do not require them to be armed," added the statement.
The Judiciary corroborated a police report seen by Viral Tea and filed at Jogoo Road Police Station depicting that the incident which occurred at 1.45 pm saw the Magistrate, Monica Kivuti, shot on the left hip.
Upon rushing to the scene, the OCS of the station and the team established that the police corporal's wife was accused in a case of obtaining money by false pretence amounting to Ksh2.9 million.
During the altercation, three police officers were injured, with one sustaining injuries on the left eye, another sustaining a gunshot in the left leg and the other sustaining an injury on the left hand.
"All the injured were rushed to hospital in stable condition. A Jericho pistol was recovered at the scene, scene processed by CSI team from Buruburu and body of the deceased officer moved to city mortuary awaiting autopsy," the report read in part.
This alarming event left the Makadara Law Courts community in shock, highlighting the critical importance of security measures in maintaining the sanctity and safety of judicial proceedings.
The court session was being held in a tent outside the main court buildings.
