Former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Atieno Amadi is among 37 individuals shortlisted to replace the late Wafula Chebukati as chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The full list, which Viral Tea has been made aware of, also includes former Constitution Implementation Committee Chair Charles Nyachae and Kenya Power Board Chairperson Joy Brenda Mdivo, as well as former IEBC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Humphrey Obanda Oswago.
Other notable picks include former Nairobi City County Assembly Clerk Jacob Ngwele Muvengei and human rights activist Francis Kakai Kissinger.
The rest of the individuals include Duncan Oburu Ojwang, Abdulqadir Lorot Ramadhan, Calistus Wekesa Waswa, Cedrick Ogoro Mukhwana, Choge Rollince, Chrisphine Otieno Owiye and Edward Katama Ngeywa.

Erastus Edung Ethekon, Fred Khaemba Masungu, Isaac Mutie Mutua, Jackson Angortum, Josiah Onyancha, and Justry Patrick Lumumba Nyaberi are also included. Others are Kadhua Jimmy Kahindi, Kenneth Kiplimo Kemboi, Kibet Victor, Lilian Wanjiku Manegene, Nelly Peris Ashubwe, Patrick Omutia Otuliia, and Peterkin Nyongesa.
Samson Ouma Ogada, Samuel Kariuki Kiragu, Samuel Osewe Ochillo, Saul Simiyu Wasilwa, Thomas Maosa Nyakambi, Vincent Omondi Oluoch, Walubengo Waningilo, William Otieno Oketch, Wilson Wambungu Maina, Wyclife Kiprotich Kiprono Bonnke and Yvonne Mercy Olaka complete the 37 candidates shortlisted.
Dr. Nelson Makanda, Chairperson of the Selection Panel, announced that 37 candidates are vying for the top position, while 1,319 individuals have been shortlisted for member roles. The shortlist includes six women, 31 men, and three Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs).
“Following the longlisting exercise, the Selection Panel shall now proceed to undertake the shortlisting process, the list of which will also be published soon before proceeding with the interviews,” Makanda told the press on Thursday, March 6.
Makanda reassured Kenyans that the panel is adhering to its schedule and remains on track to finalize the selection process within the 90-day timeframe mandated by the IEBC Act.
He further highlighted that Homa Bay County had the highest number of applicants, with five candidates. Kisii, Bungoma, and Trans Nzoia counties each had three, while Siaya, Nyeri, and Baringo counties had two applicants apiece. Other counties had either one or none.
