Arnold Njagi, father of Brian Mwenda whom the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) exposed for masquerading as a lawyer and practising without a license, disclosed that he is an alumnus of Strathmore University.

Speaking to the press on Monday, October 16, Njagi defended his son's academic qualifications, stating that he is a qualified lawyer contrary to what the LSK has been affirming since it exposed him.

LSK accused Mwenda of identity theft of one of its members, Brian Mwenda Ntwiga, by posing as a Nairobi lawyer without the required academic qualifications.

The society also accused Mwenda of defrauding unsuspecting clients and ruining its reputation.

Njagi recounted Mwenda's journey from primary to university, explaining that he pursued a diploma course in criminology in 2016.

"This enabled him to join Strathmore University in 2017 and graduate in 2020," he noted.

Njagi added that his son graduated in 2020 and joined the Kenya School of Law (KSL). After two years, he was admitted to the bar from where he started practising law.

"His first case was representing a family member in court. He made an application for appeal but unfortunately, there was no response to his application. So, he has been working in Nairobi until recently when he told me that some people were claiming that he is not a qualified lawyer," he defended.

He wondered why LSK had been accusing his son of fraudulent activities in the legal profession despite registering with the body itself.

"Our son is learned since we have been doing follow-up when he was in school, and we held several fundraisers for his school fees until he was done," he added.

"Therefore we are shocked by the news that Brian has been operating as a quack representing his clients in courts."

Mwenda's father stated that he awaits the judgment in court concerning his son, expressing confidence that justice will prevail.

On Monday, Mwenda denied claims by LSK that he is a fugitive, amidst the society urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to track down and arrest him.

Speaking in the company of former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, Mwenda restated that he was following the law and would respond to any requests to record a statement with the necessary authorities.

"The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has released a statement requesting an investigation to be done by the Inspector General (IG) of Police," he said.

"For the record, I am not a fugitive. I am a law-abiding citizen and I am not going anywhere. Any place I will be needed, I'll go. We love the law and we want to persuade people that it is not just the text of the law but the purpose of the law."

Mwenda is alleged to have appeared in court on many occasions, presenting himself as an advocate of the High Court and is reported to have won all 26 cases that he has argued.
