Bus Ferrying Tanzania MPs To Mombasa Involved In Road Accident
The accident reportedly took place after the bus ferrying them lost control and rammed into an oncoming lorry in the Mbande area of Dodoma.

A bus ferrying Tanzania Members of Parliament to the 14th edition of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Games in Mombasa was on Friday morning, December 6 involved in a road accident.
The accident reportedly took place after the bus ferrying them lost control and rammed into an oncoming lorry in the Mbande area of Dodoma.
Speaking to Tanzanian news outlet Mwananchi, Dodoma Regional Police Commander George Katabazi revealed that the accident happened at around 2 am, adding that the bus driver failed to heed the traffic alert but instead chose to overtake another vehicle along the narrow road, subsequently leading to the head-on-collision.
He further confirmed that the driver of the bus has since been arrested. However, he revealed that the victims of the accident were in stable condition after being rushed to the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma.

While addressing journalists, Katabazi urged drivers to be cautious while ferrying passengers especially during this festive season, as such could lead to injuries and even deaths.
Kenya’s National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on his part confirmed that no fatalities occurred. Addressing journalists at the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Station, Wetangula revealed that some of the legislators sustained various injuries during the incident.
“One bus carrying some of our colleagues from Tanzania was involved in an accident. We have no fatalities, but some injuries and have been taken to hospital and are being attended to,” Wetangula said.
"You will get better information once we get to Mombasa. The team of leaders who are involved in the management of the games will be able to appraise you and we wish a quick recovery to those who have sustained various injuries."
On Thursday, the steering committee, led by Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka ‘Kawaya,’ inspected the facilities designated for the games. The venues include Mbaraki Stadium (Athletics, soccer, and tug-of-war), Mombasa Sports Club (Additional soccer matches), and the Aga Khan Academy (Indoor games).
Musyoka expressed confidence in Kenya’s preparedness, noting that most venues were ready, with minor final touches underway.
The games will officially open on Saturday, December 7, at Mama Ngina Waterfront, with President William Ruto presiding over the event.
According to Article 49 of the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community, "the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) shall, among other things, liaise with the Parliaments of the Partner States on matters relating to the Community."
