Gitonga began his career as a Swahili reporter at RMS eight years ago

Citizen TV reporter Nicky Gitonga has landed a plum job in the Kwale County government.
Gitonga, who was a bilingual reporter in both English and Kiswahili at Kenya's biggest TV station, took to social media on Wednesday, September 14 to disclose details of his newfound opportunity.
He will serve at the county administration as its director of communications in the office of the Governor.
He thanked Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani for giving him the opportunity to serve in the new role and for believing in him. To his ex-colleagues at the Royal Media Services (RMS), he said that they will always have a special place in his heart.

“God is Great He has done it for me. Much thanks to Kwale County Governor Her Excellency Fatuma Achani for Appointing me as director of communications in the office of the Governor.
"Thanks for believing in me and God bless you. For Royal Media Services it will always be my home. Kazi iendelee (the work continues),” posted Gitonga.
Gitonga is expected to use his experience in the media industry to strengthen the visibility of Governor Achani, one of seven female governors elected historically in the 2022 general elections.
He will also ensure that the country and the world get updates on the progress Kwale County is making in terms of service delivery to the common mwananchi (Kenyan).
Kwale County comprises 4 sub-counties namely, Matuga, Msambweni, Kinango and Lunga Lunga and despite being an inland county, it boasts of a coastline south of Mombasa and world-famous beaches such as Diani and the coastal town of Ukunda, popular with both domestic and international tourists.
Gitonga began his career as a Swahili reporter at RMS eight years ago immediately after concluding his internship at the media house. He studied at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Citizen TV journalists have provided exciting prospects for government agencies and political parties due to the commanding presence it has over other mainstream media stations in Kenya.
