Former K24 Anchor Kelvin Kimathi Joins BBC

Sports journalist Kelvin Kimathi, alias K-Squared, who resigned from K24 TV as a sports anchor and producer, has joined the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

He took to social media on Monday, October 2, sharing a photo of himself posing at the front desk of the BBC East Africa Bureau located at Riverside in Nairobi.

Kimathi further revealed that he joined BBC's sports division, though he did not reveal the exact position he was assigned to.

"I am delighted to announce that I have joined the BBC. BBC Africa. BBC Sport," he wrote.

The news was well received by his former colleagues at K24 as well as former NTV sports anchor, Idah Waringa.

"Kelvin Kimathi to BBC FC: HERE WE GO: Deal completed between all parties. K24 TV FC to receive a £100m fixed fee plus add-ons up to £20m package. Kimathi signs a big move to the world championship, he'll fly to London today.

"Medical booked. Club to unveil new player.Done deal! Here go!" one of his ex-colleagues wrote.

The move comes exactly a week after he announced his exit from the Mediamax Networks-owned TV station after serving for three years.

He appreciated the memories and the opportunities he got as a sports journalist which have played an integral role in terms of the growth of his career.

"Today is my last working day at K24 TV. It has been an absolute honour and pleasure to play a role in the sports team for the last three years," he stated.

His colleagues at the media house treated him to a special farewell which consisted of a farewell cake featuring his picture atop the icing.

Kimathi thanked his colleagues and the media house for the opportunity accorded to him to sharpen his skills and build his career.

"I would not be here without my colleagues, management, and fans. We will definitely interact on other platforms out there, K-Squared is out," he signed off after bidding his fans farewell after the 1 p.m. news bulletin, appreciating them for their continued support.

The media house in a unique way announced his goodbye and all the best in his future endeavors in the industry and elsewhere.

"K24 TV Football Club is delighted to announce our creative midfielder Kelvin Kimathi has left the club on Monday by mutual consent. We are so proud of him. The club would like to wish him and his family all the best in the future as he takes on a new career challenge," wrote one of his colleagues.

While at K24, he hosted Jungu la Spoti, Daluga ya Spoti, EPL MaskaniLa Liga SantimaaMaskani ya Soka mong other sports shows.

He previously worked at Switch TV, for one year and three months, and at KTN News for a similar period.

Kimathi on Linkedin describes himself as an experienced multimedia journalist who is passionate about news reporting/anchoring and video production.

He is well experienced in news reporting/writing, video and audio editing, live news presentation, and camera work.

Kimathi holds a Bachelor's degree in journalism, with a special focus in Broadcast Journalism, from the Multimedia University (MMU) of Kenya where he attended between 2014 - 2016.
