Clifford Machoka has been appointed as the Director of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability at Coca-Cola East and Central Africa, having left the Nation Media Group (NMG).

The seasoned professional previously served as the Head of External Affairs at NMG.

In his new role, Machoka will be tasked with overseeing how the soft drinks company communicates with the public, manages media relations, ensures sustainable practices, and enhances the company's image and social responsibility.

"I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Director - Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability - East & Central Africa at The Coca-Cola Company!" he shared on his LinkedIn page.

Machoka describes himself as an external affairs executive with the mission to empower and transform people and organisations to achieve their desired impact in society.

"I am a strong, dynamic and visionary leader with strengths in strategic communications, regulatory management, marketing, reputation management, advocacy, public policy, public and media relations," he explains on his LinkedIn bio.

Prior to this appointment, Machoka worked at NMG for seven years where he served in a similar capacity.

As the Head of External Affairs and Marketing, his responsibilities encompassed spearheading NMG's digital transformation efforts, leading brand and commercial marketing, handling corporate communications, and nurturing partnerships with the company's stakeholders.

He joined the regional media house in 2016 from British American Tobacco (BAT) where he began as a Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Manager.

At BAT, he was promoted to Regulatory Affairs Manager in the East African Markets and again to the position of Government Relations Manager.

Other roles he has held include a research assistant at Maastricht University, a legal assistant at Waruhiu K’owade & Ng’ang’a Advocates as well as interning at the World Trade Organisation.

Machoka has a legal background, having earned an LLM in Globalization and Law (International Law) from Maastricht University in the Netherlands and a B.A, LL.B (Hons) degree from NALSAR University of Law in India.

He is also notably known for his spearheading of the 2022 presidential debates as the Head of its Secretariat in the edition which featured presidential, deputy presidential and Nairobi gubernatorial debates.
