Senior British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) presenter Maya Hayakawa announced on Sunday, July 24 that she is pregnant with her second child.

The Money Daily host took to Instagram to share uncaptioned photos of her pregnancy. It has since attracted a number of congratulatory comments from her friends and followers.

Hayakawa joins the likes of Nandy, Anita Nderu, Wahu, DJ Gee Gee’s wife Jasmine Macharia and Diana Marua who have announced that they are expecting a child.

"Thank you so much for the congratulatory messages. We are very excited for the new chapter,” she wrote on her Instagram stories.

Hayakawa on March 13, 2020, penned a heartfelt message to her son Amari who was turning 14 years old then. 

“My King, My Sweet Love, today you turn 14. You have never failed to put a smile on my face, every single day for the past 14 years.

"You are my best friend and the love of my life. Happy birthday, son!!!!! Love watching you grow into this fine young man," she wrote.

In October 2019, the media personality disclosed that she got pregnant at the age of 15 and sired her child after she turned 16 years old, an event which changed her life completely.

“I got pregnant at 15, and gave birth just 2 weeks after my 16th birthday, and it changed the course of my entire life.

"I love that I gained my best friend. There may be challenges in motherhood, but no regrets. I think the girls in #TheSheWord feel the same,” she wrote.

She was hosting a panel discussion on the show where the main agenda was motherhood.

Hayakawa held multiple roles before she got her big break as an actress at Insignia Films. She played the role of Julia on the International Hit show New Beginnings.

She then worked as a columnist at the People Daily newspaper under Mediamax Networks before being promoted to a business news anchor at Mediamax’s K24 TV. She worked there for three years before she resigned, expressing gratitude to the media house for the opportunity to work with an amazing team.

“It’s been an amazing three-year journey! I will miss everyone dearly. I’d like to thank my viewers for growing with me and supporting me throughout this journey.

"I am also so grateful to the entire Mediamax Network Family for the opportunity. I will forever keep you all in my heart! God is great! I have seen his hand all through,” she said in her departing message.

In June 2020, she penned a heartfelt message to her former colleagues at the station after they were hit by mass layoffs via text message, details of which were shared on social media and caused a nationwide uproar.

Some of the names affected by the mass firing include Sam Njoroge, Rose Gakuo, Fred Indimuli, Eric Njoka, Karen Karimi, Isabella Kituri, Nancy Onyancha, Caren Kibbett, Shiksha Arora, Shon Osimbo, Sara Adams, Joy Kariuki, Joab Mwaura and Tony Khwalanda.

Hayakawa joined BBC in July 2018 as a business broadcast journalist before being promoted to senior presenter.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the United States International University- Africa (USIU) as well as a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Clinical Psychology from the same institution.
