Court Saves Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo From Impeachment
This comes a day after 16 out of 18 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Isiolo voted in favour of removing the county boss from office.

The High Court has ruled that the impeachment of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo is invalid and has no legal effect.
Justice Heston Mbogo on Friday, June 27 made the ruling, explaining that this decision was based on an earlier conservatory order issued on June 23, which is still active and continues to protect the governor from removal.
"The orders dated June 25, 2025 are still in force. Any acts by the respondents or any other party, in defiance of the court order, shall be null and void. The orders shall remain in force until they are set aside by the court," Justice Mbogo directed.
Lawyer Ekuru Aukot, representing the respondents, informed the court that they would immediately appeal the ruling.
The case stems from a petition filed by Abdi Hassan, who secured court orders blocking the Isiolo County Assembly, its Speaker, and the Clerk from proceeding with an impeachment motion dated June 18.
On Friday, Hassan’s legal team — Eric Theuri and Elias Mutuma — filed a contempt of court application against both the Speaker and the Clerk, accusing them of defying the court's orders.
Justice Heston Mbogo directed that the Speaker and Clerk must appear before the court in person on Monday next week to answer the contempt allegations. This directive followed after their lawyers — Dr. Aukot, Paul Wafula, Alex Mbaya, and Boniface Mwereru — sidestepped the question of whether the County Assembly had complied with the earlier court order.
Meanwhile, the respondents’ legal team also signaled their intention to file an application requesting the judge to recuse himself and for a stay of the current proceedings.
"The respondents have a right to file an application for recusal and stay of proceedings only after answering the question of whether the order was obeyed," Justice Mbogo said.
This comes a day after 16 out of 18 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Isiolo voted in favour of removing the county boss from office.
The impeachment was initiated by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana, who accused the Governor of failing to deliver on development projects and falling short of county revenue collection targets.
Confusion however arose after the clerk of the county assembly, Salad Boru Guracha, issued a statement denying reports that Guyo was impeached, terming the reports as not just misleading but also formed part of what he described as “politically driven misinformation,” aimed at deceiving the public and sabotaging legitimate Assembly processes.
According to the reports, the 16 MCAs supposedly voted in favor of impeaching Guyo, with two abstaining and none opposing the motion.
However Guracha refuted this, insisting that no such session to vote on the motion ever took place. “No such sitting has been convened, held, or facilitated by this Office," he clarified.
