DCI Denies That John Muchiri Muthoni Was Abducted, Reveals Cause Of Death
Muchiri was reported missing on Friday, January 3 and was found dead the following day by the roadside in the Milimani Kawaida area of Banana, Kiambaa, Kiambu County.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has denied that 27-year-old John Muchiri Muthoni was abducted. This followed reports that his body was found in the Kiambaa constituency in Kiambu County.
Muchiri was reported missing on Friday, January 3 and was found dead the following day by the roadside in the Milimani Kawaida area of Banana, Kiambaa, Kiambu County. The discovery was made after his girlfriend reportedly received a call from an unknown number, directing her to find his body by the roadside.
DCI in a statement on Monday, January 6 revealed that investigations had established that the deceased planned to rob a rental unit in the Kiambaa area in the company of several accomplices.
Their plans were however cut short when they were noticed by residents in the area, a matter that made them escape just as they were interfering with one of the WiFi network receivers.

"Investigations revealed that the deceased, along with several accomplices, had scaled the perimeter wall of a nearby rental property with the intent to commit theft. Witnesses reported hearing them walking on the iron sheet roof and tampering with the Wi-Fi network receiver installed there," the statement revealed in part.
"Upon noticing the intruders, residents raised alarm, prompting the suspects to flee by jumping off the roof in different directions."
A crowd would later catch up to Muchiri and apprehend him, subjecting him to mob justice approximately 20 meters from the rental property, leading to his death.
The DCI revealed that the residents had been victims of previous criminal incidents targeting the property. "Further investigation confirmed that the residents of this property had previously been victims of multiple break-ins and burglaries," added the DCI.
Muchiri's body was found draped in a floral scuff in the Banana area on Saturday, January 4. Found beside the body were the deceased's clothes and shoes. It is currently at the Kihara Level IV Hospital mortuary, awaiting autopsy.
DCI refuted allegations that the deceased was abducted. The discovery sparked uproar and raised the total count to three bodies of young Kenyans recovered in a spate of two days, amidst the disappearance of youth deemed government critics.
"Initially, this case was classified as an abduction. However, subsequent investigations have clarified the circumstances. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains committed to conducting thorough and impartial investigations to ensure justice is served," added DCI.
The discovery was made on the same day the body of 26-year-old Ian Singoe, who had been missing for a while, was discovered in another shocking incident.
According to a friend who was allowed to share the news by the family of the late Singoe, the young man was last seen on December 31, 2024, in the neighbourhood in the counties of Nairobi and Kiambu.
