Officers from the National Police Service (NPS) in Mombasa on Saturday, April 13 apprehended a suspected drug dealer in the Kisauni area.

In a statement, NPS revealed that the arrest followed a joint intelligence-led operation conducted on Friday night, April 12 night by DCI Anti Narcotics teams and their Coast Region counterparts, at the home of the suspect in Magongo, Kisauni Sub-county.

The narcotics, believed to be heroin weighing 169.18 grams with an estimated market price of Ksh507,540 were seized.

Also recovered was cash of Ksh1,327,300 and USD 3,610 (Ksh469,300), amounting to a total of Ksh1,796,600. Four mobile phones were recovered as well.

"During the raid, one male suspect was also nabbed, and the matter is under probe by DCI Moi Airport Mombasa," NPS also announced.

"The National Police Service takes this opportunity to thank members of the public who partnered with the Police on this matter."

Earlier in February this year, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit recovered 300 grammes of heroin worth Ksh1.2 million from a house belonging to a university student whom they arrested.

DCI on February 1 revealed that the officers were deployed from the Moi International Airport (MIA) in Mombasa to the house belonging to the 24-year-old student.

"The detectives were acting on an intelligence report, which also led to the arrest of the student at his Mshomoroni house, Kisauni sub-county," stated DCI in part.

During the bust, the heroin drug was found wrapped in a clear polythene bag, bearing a brownish/whitish substance with an estimated street value of Ksh1.2 million

The narcotic was tested on-site, turning positive for heroin and thereafter secured as an exhibit

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a recent visit to the coast region gave stern directives to area police, to flash out drug dealers ruining the lives of youths in Mombasa. 

He further promised to arrest all the drug barons in the area to clean up the city from drug business.

"I want to tell the barons who are filthy rich, some of whom are politicians and businessmen and have made billions of shillings from selling drugs, that God will punish them," he vowed.
