Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Nakuru County have appealed to Kenyans for information regarding armed thugs who robbed Mwinjoyo FM, a Gospel radio station based in Nakuru, on Thursday, May 11.

According to DCI's report on Saturday, May 13, the gun-wielding thugs stormed the radio station, manhandled staff and made away with cash and other valuables.

"In the unfortunate incident recorded live on camera, the thugs who were armed with a firearm and machetes were captured as they made their way into the recording studio, where they ordered the presenters to lie down before they ransacked their pockets for money and other valuables.

Zima hiyo kitu! Lala chini (Switch off that thing! Lie down),” one of them ordered as two shocked presenters a man and a woman sprung to the floor," stated the DCI in part.

The sleuths added that the thugs who had their faces concealed using balaclavas interrupted the live Kigocho broadcast, which featured gospel musician Robert Kiarie.

The gang of four made away with eight mobile phones, over Ksh35,000 in cash and eight pairs of shoes.

Five cameras were also damaged by the thugs before they escaped by jumping over the establishment’s perimeter, located in Nakuru’s posh Milimani suburbs.

"A manhunt for the thugs has been launched and we are appealing for information from anyone who may recognize thugs dressed in black to volunteer it to us anonymously via the #FichuakwaDCI hotline 0800 722 203," added the DCI.

In a video seen by Viral Tea, the presenters were going about their business of entertaining their listeners live on air before their show was cut short by the sudden entry of the four men.

As the ordeal captured in the three-minute video continued to unfold, the robbers kept monitoring the entrance in case someone happened to walk in on them unnoticed.

Meanwhile, one of them noticed that they could have been captured on CCTV in their nefarious activities, even though they shrugged off the camera placed in front of the presenters that was filming the whole thing.

“Where is the CCTV? Where is the CCTV?” they asked.

The victim complied and directed them towards the CCTV while asking “And you are on Facebook Live?”

At this point, the robbers realised that the phone was recording the presenters, which they took and switched off. Below is the video:
