New details have emerged surrounding the alleged arrest of Nairobi-based musician and songwriter Willy Paul, real name Wilson Abubakar Radido in a series of events that included police surrounding his home in Syokimau, Machakos County.

A social media firestorm began when the Lalala hitmaker sensationally claimed on Monday, March 4 that he was being stalked by police officers outside his residence for allegedly causing a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian.

While claiming his life was in danger, he asserted that this was not the first time such accusations had been made against him, hinting at a previous encounter with law enforcement under similar circumstances.

"I've been told that there are police officers outside my house Syotani Villas waiting for me saying I knocked someone and ran away, they want to kill me!!!

"The same thing happened last year. If something happens to me you just know it is the people in uniform and they're outside my house right now!!" he wrote in an Instagram post which he deleted afterwards.

Nonetheless, his post drew media attention with bloggers and online media reporters quickly deployed to his residence.

Despite being barred from entry at the gate, bloggers managed to ascertain that the musician had indeed been apprehended, even though Viral Tea had yet to independently verify the alleged arrest when the reports surfaced on Monday afternoon.

The media outlets' accounts revealed the presence of police vehicles at the scene, indicating Willy Paul's arrest and subsequent transport to an unknown destination.

Addressing the media, Caroline Giseve, a lawyer for musician Diana Marua Bahati, attributed the purpose of the arrest to cyberbullying charges stemming from online claims the singer made in 2021 against Diana, also known by her rap stage name Diana B.

"Investigations were conducted, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions authorized Willy Paul's arrest," Giseve stated.

"Despite numerous summons, Willy Paul failed to appear, leading to his arrest on Monday morning."

The allegations, related to a purported relationship with Bahati before her marriage, fuelled rumours and ultimately led to Willy Paul's court summons, which he allegedly ignored multiple times.

It is worth noting that the singer in 2021 claimed to have slept with Diana Marua several times before she settled down with fellow musician Bahati, allegations the mother of three vehemently denied through a viral video.

Diana had threatened to sue Willy Pozze but never disclosed further information on the same, leading people including the accused to believe the issue had evaporated into thin air.

The scene outside Paul's residence resembled a movie scene, with police creating a barricade for the better part of Monday morning.

Following his arrest, the musician is expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
