As a Kenyan celebrity, one cardinal rule in life is to never let some details of your past life be exposed to the internet. The country has a way of making even previous tiny habits such as chewing your fingernails a top trend on social media.

In this country, there is nothing more explosive than a celebrity's past relationship(s) being leaked onto the internet by individuals ranging from ordinary Kenyans to previous lovers. This took centre stage on Thursday, January 5 when a former lover of YouTuber Georgina Njenga leaked a nude video of her which went viral.

Njenga, who is dating former Machachari TV series actor Tyler Mbaya (Baha), confirmed to blogger Edgar Obare that she was the one featured in the clip which captured her dancing naked while inside a room.

"It happened when I was 17 with someone I liked. He was a guy in Kenyatta University's (KU) Ruiru campus. Reasons for leaking I don't know," she said.

She added that the incident happened in 2020 and the man began threatening her immediately after she went public regarding her relationship with Baha, despite her not dating him.

When questioned why the man would be upset about her relationship with Baha, Njenga answered "Because it was a win in my life and he had something against me".

"I don't think he wanted money but once in the threat he asked for $200 (Ksh24,710) but according to how I saw it he just wanted to see me not okay," she went on.

This is not the first time a celebrity's past life, or in this case a person associated with one. Nearly three years ago, her counterpart Diana Marua Bahati confessed to dating multiple men in her 20s to fund her luxurious lifestyle in a YouTube video whose snippet of it found its way to Twitter on November 17, 2022, and went viral.

“I used to date men for money at some point in my life because I lacked the whole of my life to a point where all I wanted was a good life, all I wanted was to live well. I dated guys for money and I had one who paid my rent, another did my house shopping and I had someone to buy me clothes and another to take me out,” she said.

“Let me tell you something, in my early 20s, money for me was never a problem and I see people on social media talking about me dating Bahati for his money and all that. Guys I don’t want to brag but let me tell you, even when Bahati met me and we used to hang out, I used to come in different cars. When we meet today I had this car, the next time we met again I had another car and one day he asked me, ‘Where do you get all these cars?’ At that time we had not known each other that much.

“He knew I didn’t have a job but I lived the life. I used to wear nice clothes and all that. When I went shopping I bought so much the fridge door couldn’t close, that was my life,” said Diana at the time.

It did not stop there. At one point in the confession, she admitted to being a side chick to a married man who took care of her needs despite being unable to leave his wife to be with her.

To clear the air, Diana penned a long Instagram post hours later noting that she felt the urge to speak up for the women and girls that look up to her.

"Dear Girl Child. I thought I should write something to speak to many Women and girls who follow me and look up to me. Girls that have dreams but don't know where to start but despite hardships, they still know what they want to become in Life.

"I was just scrolling and checking to see what's popping on social media and I was surprised I am top trending on Twitter because of a video I posted years ago as I Dedicated to God a Mercedes Benz gift I had received from my Husband. It's still funny that some KOTs are watching this today (anyway Glory to God it means Team Diana subscribers and Numbers are Growing)," she wrote in part.

Diana nonetheless received criticism from Kenyans across the divide, including Keroche Breweries heiress and the Chief Executive Officer of Nero Water Anerlisa Muigai who lamented that her sentiments prompted men to consider body count when looking for a woman as a potential suitor.

Body count refers to the number of people you have had penetrative sex with. It does not matter how intimate the make-out was, or how much stuff you have done with someone, if there hasn't been a penetration, it does not count as sex in this context.
