The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed on Wednesday evening, April 19 that it had completed investigations into the mysterious death of the 23-year-old interior designer, Jeff Mwathi, who died on February 22, 2023.

DCI revealed in a statement that after completing its probe, it forwarded its file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji for perusal before taking further action.

This means that popular Mugithi singer Lawrence Njuguna, popularly known as DJ Fatxo, from whose house at Redwood Apartments along USIU Road in Kasarani, Nairobi that Mwathi fell from, could find out his fate in the murder case.

"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has this afternoon completed investigations into the death of Jeff Mwathi, 23, who died on February 22, 2023, in unclear circumstances.

"This is after the Homicide department, which has been investigating the incident received an autopsy report from the government Pathologist and the government Chemist, following a fresh probe into the death as ordered by the DCI Director, Mr Mohamed Amin," stated the DCI in part.

The case has been the subject of public interest, with DCI Director Mohamed Amin ordering a fresh investigation into the matter to establish the events leading up to Mwathi's demise.

DCI Homicide detectives and crime scene experts based at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory revisited the scene on Thursday, April 6 and obtained fresh statements from witnesses to help unravel the death mystery.

The body of the deceased was exhumed for a fresh autopsy, and toxicological samples were taken to determine if the deceased had consumed alcohol or any other toxic substances prior to his death.

DNA samples were taken from the deceased and persons of interest to establish if allegations of sexual molestation before the death hold any truth.

Additionally, forensic analysis of CCTV footage from the apartment where the incident occurred and cyber analysis of digital data were conducted for a comprehensive probe.

While exhuming Mwathi's body on Friday, March 31, DCI collected samples for toxicological analysis with Oduor, who conducted a second autopsy, revealing that the samples were taken to establish if Mwathi was sodomized or not.

Detectives also took measurements of Mwathi's chest width to ascertain whether he jumped off the apartment through the window as had been alleged during preliminary investigations, despite being ruled out in subsequent investigations.
