Dr Joyce Gatiria Njagi Kindiki: Meet Kenya's New Second Lady
The transition of Kithure Kindiki into his new role will see the introduction of a Second Lady who will replace Pastor Dorcas Rigathi. She will be the third under the 2010 Constitution of Kenya.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is not one to reveal details of his private life, not surprising given his quiet personality and preference for action, not talk. However, his swearing-in on Friday, November 1 gave Kenyans a glimpse of the Deputy President's family, which has for the most been off the limelight.
The transition of Kithure Kindiki into his new role will see the introduction of a Second Lady who will replace Pastor Dorcas Rigathi. She will be the third under the 2010 Constitution of Kenya.
Say hello to Dr. Joyce Gatiria Njagi Kindiki, who is the spouse to Kindiki and will become Kenya’s Second Lady, taking over from Pastor Dorcas Rigathi whose spouse ceased being DP officially on October 31, 2024.

Kindiki took on roles that shaped Kenya’s political landscape including becoming Tharaka Nithi’s Senator and Cabinet Secretary for Interior Affairs under the leadership of President William Ruto.
Although her husband’s political career often placed him in the public eye, Njagi chose a more private path, dedicated to her students, her family, and her work. Together, they have raised three children who they have also kept out of the spotlight.
Second Ladies and Projects
Holders of the office of the Second Lady have historically had projects close to their hearts that they have implemented for the benefit of Kenyans.
For Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the empowerment of the boychild, and rehabilitation of drug addicts was a course close to her heart. Through her initiative, several people got a second chance to excel in life after undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation and training program that culminated in graduation.
While serving as the Second Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto implemented several initiatives, including women empowerment through the Joyful Women Organization (JOYWO).
With Kindiki taking office, Kenyans will be paying keen attention to Joyce in terms of what pet project she might have in mind.
