The accident came hours after another accident was reported in the Tegero area along Narok-Bomet County early Monday morning, around 1:15 am.

This saw a head-on collision occurring between a matatu and a lorry, the crash claiming the life of the driver and leaving 11 others seriously injured.

National Police Service Officers from Ololulunga Police Station were deployed to the scene, confirming that the casualties were rushed to the Narok County Referral Hospital.

On December 31, 2023, seven people were killed after a trailer that was transporting maize rammed into a matatu in a grisly accident along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway.

At the same time, residents took advantage of the crash to loot maize from the trailer which was packaged in sacks, in full view of an armed police officer who was at the scene.

The accidents have raised serious concerns regarding the safety of country roads as well as long-distance passenger vehicles, particularly their roadworthiness.

On December 18, 2023, Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that 3,999 people died in road accidents between January and December 7, 2023, a reduction number from the 4,352 recorded within the same period in 2022.
