Easy Coach on Monday, April 3 issued a statement after one of its buses rammed into a trailer near Naivasha weighbridge along the Nairobi‐Nakuru Highway on Sunday night, April 2.

The bus company revealed that the bus, which was reportedly full of passengers, was travelling to Malaba on Kenya's western border with Uganda when it collided with a trailer before the former veered off the highway.

Easy Coach added that the truck was trying to overlap while travelling in the opposite direction before the accident.

"Last night at around 9.30 pm, our bus heading to Malaba was involved in an accident a kilometre to the Gilgil weighbridge with a truck heading opposite direction which was trying to overlap," stated the company in part.

While wishing a quick recovery to the injured passengers, Easy Coach added that one passenger was hospitalized while the remainder, some with minor injuries, were rescued by the Nakuru bus which took them to their destination.

"One passenger is admitted at a Naivasha hospital. The remaining passengers some with minor injuries proceeded with their journey using our Nakuru rescue bus," the company added.

Easy Coach's statement however contradicts one issued by the Kenya Red Cross - Nakuru branch which revealed that the accident occurred an hour before midnight.

"On Sunday at around 2300hrs, there was an accident between an Easy Coach bus and a trailer that just happened near Naivasha weighbridge along the Nairobi‐Nakuru Highway.

"Few passengers sustained slight injuries and were taken to Gilgil Sub-County Hospital with the help of the National Police Service. The scene was contained," the statement read in part.

According to the latest data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the number of road fatalities decreased by 4.6 per cent in the past year.
