Easy Coach Speaks After One Student Dies In Chavakali Boys Night Accident

Bus company Easy Coach Limited on Tuesday, April 2 expressed its condolences to the family and loved ones of a student who died in a tragic accident involving one of its buses along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway.

In a statement, the company revealed that the fatal accident involved one of its buses plying the Mbale-Nairobi route which occurred next to the Coptic Church roundabout near Mamboleo in Kisumu.

"We are deeply saddened to confirm a fatal accident involving our Mbale-Nairobi bus that occurred in Mamboleo -Kisumu, on April 1st, 2024, around 10 pm," announced the bus company in part.

"One passenger tragically lost their life in this accident. We extend our heartfelt condolences to their family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."

Easy Coach however confirmed that three additional passengers who were admitted to the hospital are currently in stable condition, and wished them a full and speedy recovery.

Other passengers received medical attention and have since been discharged.

Easy Coach added that it is working closely with authorities to investigate the cause of the accident, adding "Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved."

The accident which involved students from Chavakali Boys High School made Kenyans direct their anger towards Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

Kenyans called upon the CS to promptly act and liaise with more security personnel to ensure safety on the road, accusing him of prioritising other matters instead of those concerning his sector.

According to reports, the driver attempted to negotiate a corner when he lost control, and hit a rail guard, resulting in overturning the vehicle.

The accident occurred at around 9 pm along the Mbale-Nairobi route disrupting traffic before police arrived at the scene.

Following the accident, police revealed that the driver had fled the scene and plans were underway to locate him for questioning.
