Easy Coach Bus Full Of High School Students Involved In Accident While Heading To Nairobi

An Easy Coach bus ferrying high school students to Nairobi from Chavakali Boys High School has been involved in an accident.

Preliminary reports reaching Viral Tea's newsdesk reveal that the bus was involved in the Monday, April 1 accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway.

In particular, the crash took place next to the Coptic Church roundabout near Mamboleo in Kisumu.

One student has so far been confirmed dead and several injured while others are trapped. St John Ambulance paramedics so far managed to rescue 10 who were seriously injured.

Photos seen by Viral Tea showed the bus lying on its left-hand side with a crowd milling around the scene.

The injured students from the accident have since been rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.

A student at the scene revealed that they had closed school and had boarded the bus from the school for Nairobi.

The accident occurred at the same time a grisly one took place involving five vehicles between the Salama area and Sultan Hamud along Mombasa Road.

The collision involved an 18-seater matatu, a trailer, a lorry, a saloon car and another Public Service Vehicle (PSV). 

According to a police report seen by Viral Tea, the crash occurred when the lorry was being driven from Nairobi to Mombasa and on reaching the scene, the driver had failed to keep to its proper traffic lane.

The lorry also turned right abruptly and without due care and attention, an action that led to it colliding head-on with the matatu.

Due to the impact, the second matatu was brushed and thrown towards the trailer while the saloon car was brushed by the tail of the lorry.

"Due to the impact of the accident, four passengers in different motor vehicles are feared dead while others are seriously injured and have been rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital.

"All the other vehicles except the offending lorry were heading towards the Nairobi general direction," the report read in part.

The identities of the victims by the time of going to press were yet to be identified. Witnesses at the scene rushed to assist in rescuing survivors. 

Makueni County Ambulance arrived at the scene to aid in rescuing those trapped in the melee. 

Additionally, the accident caused a traffic snarl-up with motorists approaching the scene being ordered to seek another alternative route.
