Former TV47 Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abubakar Abdullahi will launch a new media outlet dedicated to telling stories regarding Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

Speaking to Viral Tea, Abubakar revealed that the niche media outlet, Giving Post Media (thegivingpost.org) will be launched on Friday, August 4.

In a statement on Monday, July 31, he expressed that the disruptive idea for the media outlet will seek to provide a voice to the over 12,000 NGOs in the country and the impact as well as contributions they make to communities.

"Kenya has over 12,000 registered Non-Governmental Organizations. These organizations received approximately Ksh175 billion in Funds to impact communities.

"Despite the enormous financial resources invested, this sector remains largely obscure, with no media outlet dedicated to highlighting the remarkable impact and contributions these NGOs make to communities," he revealed.

Abubakar hailed the upcoming media house as a game-changer utilising the might of the media to bring about positive change to audiences globally through highlighting stories of NGOs leaving a positive impact on communities as well as bringing social issues to the limelight.

"Our media platform was born out of a shared belief in the power of media to create positive change in the world. We recognized the incredible work being done by NGOs to uplift communities and address pressing social issues, yet realized that their stories often went underreported

"In response to this gap, we are thrilled to introduce the Giving Post Media - a dedicated outlet committed to sharing compelling stories from the NGO world. Our mission is to complement the efforts of these organizations and amplify their achievements through thoughtful and impactful storytelling," he added.

The upcoming media outlet furthermore opened up a means for NGOs striving to make a difference and would like to have their remarkable impact to be showcased through the outlet; this can be done by reaching out via email at agivingpost@gmail.com

The new move comes a few months after Abubakar left the helm at TV47 after four years to pursue other interests.

"It has been a lifetime honour and privilege to serve as your chief Editor and subsequently as your Chief Executive officer for the last four years.

"When I took over the leadership of the company we deeply love, I made a commitment that we will fight for our spot in Kenya's competitive media landscape. I am proud that we have made tremendous progress together," Abubakar stated in part on Monday, March 27.

The former CEO hailed his achievements including steering TV47 to be the fastest-growing TV station in Kenya and as an integral part of his philosophy, he created a humane company that put the interest of its staff members first.

He expressed his pride to his colleagues for their individual growth and collective success while wishing them the best. Abubakar however did not disclose details of his next move.

Before joining TV47, he worked at Elm TV,iTV and Standard Media Group. He was appointed the TV47 CEO in 2020 to replace Eugene Anangwe, the founding CEO who stepped down for a stint at CNBC Africa as Rwanda's country manager.

He was replaced as CEO by Ken Otwenyo a veteran media personality who previously worked with Nation Media Group, Royal Media and Standard Group Limited, who was in turn replaced by Wilson Mbugua as acting CEO.

One of Mbugua's main tasks is to increase TV47's revenue streams in line with its increasing popularity owing to the launch of Radio 47 and the subsequent rebranding of the TV station as well as the recruitment of new news anchors.
