"It has been a lifetime honour and privilege to serve as your chief Editor and subsequently as your Chief Executive officer for the last four years.

When I took over the leadership of the company we deeply love, I made a commitment that we will fight for our spot in Kenya's competitive media landscape. I am proud that we have made tremendous progress together," Abubakar stated in part.

The former CEO hailed his achievements including steering TV47 to be the fastest-growing TV station in Kenya and as an integral part of his philosophy, he created a humane company that put the interest of its staff members first.

"I am also proud of the caring community we became. However. I have for personal reasons decided to leave the company and pursue other interests.

"You have offered me the support I needed to execute my mandate and I thank you all for that while requesting that you grant the same to my successor," he added.

He expressed his pride to his colleagues for their individual growth and collective success while wishing them the best. Abubakar however did not disclose details of his next move.

Before joining TV47, he worked at Elm TV,iTV and Standard Media Group. He was appointed the TV47 CEO in 2020 to replace Eugene Anangwe, the founding CEO who stepped down for a stint at CNBC Africa as Rwanda's country manager.

He was replaced as CEO by Ken Otwenyo a veteran media personality who previously worked with Nation Media Group, Royal Media and Standard Group Limited. One of Otwenyo's main tasks will be to increase TV47's revenue streams in line with its increasing popularity owing to the launch of Radio47.

Both TV47 and Radio47 fall under Cape Media, with the latter boasting star-studded presenters such as Mwanaisha Chidzuga, Dr Ofweneke, Billy Miya, Lizah Mutuku among others.
