Former Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney has re-entered the media industry, taking up the role of Growth Strategy Consultant at Cape Media Limited.

In her new position, Karoney will lead strategic and policy reforms aimed at strengthening Cape Media’s market position. The company is the parent of TV47, Radio47, and TV47 Digital.

Karoney previously served as the Cabinet Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning from 2018 to 2022 under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Before her government tenure, she built a notable media career, including roles as Chief Operating Officer and Editorial Director at Royal Media Services, where she played a key role in driving innovation and growth at the broadcaster.

She also held positions at KTN, Nation Media Group, and Al Jazeera in various editorial and leadership capacities.

Speaking after her appointment, Karoney emphasised the importance of strengthening the Cape Media brand and diversifying revenue channels to support the company’s rapid growth.

Cape Media Chairperson Simon Gicharu welcomed her addition, expressing confidence that her leadership will help sustain the momentum across the company’s platforms—TV47, Radio 47, and TV47 Digital.

During her stint as Lands CS, Karoney spearheaded the implementation of the National Land Information Management System (NLIMS), also known as Ardhisasa, with the aim of digitising land records to improve transparency, reduce fraud, cut processing times, and boost revenue collection.

Following her exit from Cabinet, Karoney kept a relatively low profile until August 2024, when President William Ruto appointed her as Chairperson of the National Lottery Board.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education (Botany and Zoology) from Kenyatta University, an MBA in Strategic Management, and a PhD in Business Administration (Strategy) from the University of Nairobi, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the same university.

The move comes months after former TV47 Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abubakar Abdullahi announced his return to the Muthaiga-based media house as a Board Media Advisor as well as a host of a Monday Night political show.
