Former NTV prime-time news anchor, Mark Masai announced his brand new show on Sunday, December 11, a week after he was fired from the Nation Media Group (NMG).

He will host The Social Newsroom which will be streamed starting this Thursday, December 15 across social media platforms. It will cover various stories told by the people of Kenya in a different way.

"Ladies & Gentlemen: Here's to the us! To the new way of doing things. To finding meaning in what we experience. To finding stories that matter to us. Welcome to the future. #TheSocialNewsroom by @semaboxAfrica Streaming this Thur 6pm on my socials. Like, Share, tell a friend!" he captioned a promo video he shared on social media on the show.

Masai will host the show on Thursday at 6.00 pm in what is viewed as his return stint to media, days after NMG fired him in an ongoing mass firing exercise.

"It has always been about the who, what, where, when, why and how. But in the times we are living in, there is a big so what?"

"To the new way of doing things, finding meaning in what we experience and finding stories that matter to us. Welcome to the future!" he said.

The show will be produced by SemaBox Africa, a plug-and-play, specialist podcasting studio and podcast incubator which provides space, skills and technology to turn one's podcast idea into reality.

SemaBox has worked with high-profile clients including Google Arts, Amnesty International Kenya, and the European Union- East African Community Market Access and Upgrade Programme ( EU-EAC MARKUP).

Following the end of his 14-year career at the TV station, Masai hinted at making a comeback with a brief post on Wednesday, December 7 touching on the aspect of Human Relations (HR) and how the segment at workplaces should be handled better.

“Let's face it, a conversation needs to be had about HR and how operations can be managed better. Watch this space...Today,” he wrote.

Later in the day, he was featured in a Twitter space hosted by Mwango Capital at 8 pm titled When HR Meets Tech In Africa. The financial media house had earlier publicly invited him for the highly anticipated online conversation.

Masai also indicated that he plans to start a YouTube channel to connect with his fans, highlighting that he would take the same path as former Kiss 100 presenter Adelle Onyango who ventured into digital media following her exit from Radio Africa Group.

He on Thursday, December 1 shared a video montage of his special moments while anchoring at the station since 2008, while praising the station for putting together a great team to achieve success.

"NTV is a great team! These are different times. Was a great show. Time for short a commercial break. I'll be back!" he wrote.

Masai's statement came after Viral Tea was reliably informed that he was among the senior journalists affected by the mass firings at NMG. Insiders had indicated that he was given the termination letter on his way to reading the previous night's bulletin and was professional until his exit.

He was replaced by Ibrahim Karanja, who made his debut during the NTV at One bulletin on Saturday, December 3, five months after he joined NMG from Standard Media Group (SMG).
