Former Woman Rep Janet Marania Teyiaa Dies
Confirming the news of her passing was former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, April 7, terming her demise a great shock.

Confirming the news of her passing was former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, April 7, terming her demise a "great shock."
"I served with Janet in the 12th parliament when she represented the people of Kajiado County as a woman Representative," he recounted.
"Janet, as a young girl, was saved by a social worker due to her disability in her childhood days, brimming with the epitome of resilience and a great spirit that nothing can stop a great soul from realizing their dreams, especially the people who are differently abled."

Gachagua remembered her contribution in Kajiado County on what hails communities, adding that it "speaks volumes on her resolve, especially speaking and advocating for the people living with disabilities, will remain in our hearts as a people."
"She has left a big gap in our Nation. My deepest sympathies to her immediate family, to the people of Kajiado County and to the people of Kenya. May her soul rest in eternal peace and perpetual light shine upon her forever," he added. However, Gachagua did not reveal the cause of Teyiaa's demise.
In 2022, the former woman representative stepped aside from the race and threw her support behind the candidate running on the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
On May 11, 2022, President William Ruto praised her decision on social media, commending her for allowing Leah Sangaire to contest in her place.
"We associate with the courage and sacrifice that Hon Janet Teyiaa has made in rescheduling her political ambition to back the UDA’s Woman Representative candidate for Kajiado County, Leah Sangaire. United we win," Ruto wrote.
Before venturing into politics, Marania worked as an adult education teacher. In 2013, she was nominated to the National Assembly by The National Alliance (TNA) to represent people with disabilities and served on the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare.
She later secured a win in 2017, becoming the Woman Representative for Kajiado County under the Jubilee Party banner.
