Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba on Monday, April 7, claimed that her security detail was withdrawn by the state, meaning that her life was in danger.

The lawmaker spoke to the media moments after she honoured summons by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), where she made bold accusations against the government, including claims that 'mercenaries' had been sent to threaten and intimidate her.

"There are mercenaries hired by politicians to intimidate, kill, and abduct. I want to announce here that my life is in danger. Anything happening to me, we know who is behind it," the MP said.

Wamuchomba, a vocal opponent of President William Ruto’s administration, also claimed she received summons from suspicious individuals. When she followed up with Kiambu County Police Commander Doris Mugambi, she was informed that the summons didn’t come from the police.

The MP also blamed her predecessor for orchestrating a scheme to undermine her, alleging that multiple visits to her office were carried out to intimidate her staff.

Furthermore, she voiced concerns about the safety of her constituency office staff, citing threats they had received from rival politicians.

"This government does not respect women. If they did, they would have assigned me 10 bodyguards. I had one bodyguard who was withdrawn, just as they did with former DP Rigathi Gachagua. My life is in danger, and the lives of those who work for me in in danger," she claimed.

As a result, Wamuchomba urged the government to ensure her protection, claiming that suspicious vehicles were spotted outside her home on Friday night. She noted that the vehicles left after residents began taking photos.

She also mentioned that she had reported the incident to the police and called for additional bodyguards to be assigned to her.

"The President came to Githunguri, and nobody heckled him. Why are they harassing us? For those leaders who were heckled, they were chosen by people, and they should go back to the electorate and talk to them," the MP stated, adding, "They should not come after me because they have been unable to do their work."

Wamuchomba is now demanding that the government not only restore her security detail but also increase it to four bodyguards, instead of the single officer she previously had.

She claimed the phone call summoning her was a calculated move by her political rivals, allegedly aimed at preventing her from visiting Githunguri Stadium ahead of President Ruto’s development tour in the area.

During Ruto’s visit, he inspected several key projects, including the ongoing construction of the Mau Mau Roads in Nyanduma, Lari, Kiambu, and the Githunguri County Integrated Industrial Park.

Wamuchomba also criticized President Ruto for remaining silent amid a rise in attacks by hired goons, particularly targeting leaders aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. She highlighted a recent incident at a PCEA church in Kasarani, where goons reportedly tried to storm the premises while Gachagua was attending the service.

On that Sunday, security personnel associated with the former DP intervened after a group of youths allegedly demanded payment to attend the event.
