20-time Football Kenya Federation (FKF) League champions Gor Mahia have been banned from using Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi following the chaos that ensued on Saturday, November 11 during their Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League match against Murang’a Seals.

A letter by Sports Kenya to the Gor Mahia Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) seen by Viral Tea revealed that the football club has also been ordered to pay Ksh1.9 million in damages caused when their fans damaged seats during their confrontation with their counterparts of Murang'a Seals.

"You are, therefore, required to pay the amounts indicated above to enable Sports Kenya to replace the seats and carry out the other repairs," read the letter in part.

Sports Kenya revealed that 295 seats worth a total of Ksh1.5 million were damaged alongside wooden panels for Persons With Disabilities (PWD) valued at Ksh20,000.

Four electrical panes worth Ksh125,000 each, totalling Ksh500,000, were also damaged during the chaos.

Further, Gor Mahia FC was required to submit to Sports Kenya an elaborate plan of action on how the club would be able to contain such actions from their fans.

"Failure to submit an action plan, Sports Kenya will have no option but to deny fans entry during any other matches involving your team," Sports Kenya cautioned.

"Take note that Gor Mahia FC will not be allowed to host any matches in any of Sports Kenya's facilities until the above amount is settled."

Gor was scheduled to face Tanzanian side Azam FC in a friendly match at Kasarani this weekend before their next league game against Kariobangi Sharks on December 3, 2023.

A section of Gor Mahia fans went on a destruction spree after the game which ended in a barren draw. Fans were irked by the numerous unfair fouls they felt centre referee Kevin Amol awarded Murang’a Seal.

After the final whistle, K'Ogalo fans attacked their Murang’a counterparts forcing police officers to fire teargas and live bullets as they battled the fans, while players, officials and journalists took cover on the pitch.

The referee was also not spared as the fans hurled objects at him, accusing him of biased decisions that led to the game ending in the goalless draw.

In multiple photos and videos seen by Viral Tea, the fans were captured uprooting the seats and throwing them inside the pitch to vent their frustrations.

In a letter to the federation, Seals claimed that their fans and a player at the stands were assaulted by the hooligans and called for action to be taken.

It was also reported that security men suffered bodily harm while both teams and the officials had to wait for more than an hour in the dressing rooms for calm to be restored.

"We are going to assess if the fine is factual with the damages caused because even AFC Leopards had caused fracas and damages at the same venue this season. We will only take the blame where we feel our fans misbehaved," Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ochola told the Nation.

'"We are talking with the management of Kasarani to expedite the process of fixing the damages caused. We ask our fans to handle themselves with decorum to avoid such fines. We also regret our actions and apologise for the chaos that took place."

Gor Mahia currently sits second in the FKF table, a point behind Posta Rangers at the summit and level on points with Murang'a Seals.
