Media personality Kamene Goro responded to news of her looming exit from Radio Africa Group station Kiss 100 FM.

Kamene on Thursday, January 19 was hesitant to reveal further details of her imminent departure from the well-known radio station, where she has spent the last three years as its breakfast show host.

She also failed to understand why her departure would make headlines, knowing that it would not be easy leaving the media house she called home since 2019.

“I don’t have anything to say, but again how is my leaving news?

“You people should know leaving is not an easy thing, and you should let people be,” she told Nairobi News.

A source who spoke to Viral Tea on condition of anonymity confirmed her exit, further noting that Radio Africa Group had tapped renowned radio presenter Sheila Kwamboka alias Kwambox to replace her.

"I'm also meant to understand that too but no official communication has been made. Rumour has it that tomorrow is her last day.

"Kwambox has already signed the docs but we really don't know the details until it's officially communicated," the source said.

"Our quest for continuous improvement is tremendous. Sheila Kwamboka better known as Kwambox has joined the Radio Africa group.

“She has quite a reputation for being the home of the best media talent in this country over the past 20 years. I'm hoping that Kwambox as an addition will not only give listeners a chance to enjoy bigger, better, more engaging radio but also give advertisers a chance you know to get products articulated and well connected to consumers," Radio Africa Group Chief Operating Officer, Martin Khafafa weighed in.

Kamene has been through three co-hosts during her tenure at the station, which she joined in 2019 following a protracted battle with her previous employer, NRG Radio, which had filed a court case preventing her from taking up the Kiss FM job before the lapse of the non-compete period in the contract she had signed.

She, alongside Andrew Kibe, would join the station together, having shot to fame at NRG, before Kibe left in 2020. She continued hosting the Kiss breakfast show until Kibe was replaced by Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o later that same year.

Jalang'o would later step down in 2022 to focus on his political ambitions, leaving her with her immediate former co-host, Oga Obinna.

Kamene has become a household name in Kenya due to her sharp wit, humour, and candid approach to discussing various topics on her show. She is known for her fearless attitude toward tackling sensitive and controversial issues, which has earned her a large following among Kenyan youth.

Kwambox meanwhile is set to join Radio Africa, which owns Classic105, Kiss100, Radio Jambo, Homeboyz, Gukena, and East FM.

She will be drawn from Vybez Radio, under the Standard Media Group (SMG), continuing the haemorrhage of talent from the Mombasa Road-based media house.

SMG has been in the news since an internal memo dated September 30, 2022, warned of a mass firing sweeping across various departments in the wake of financial difficulties affecting the 100-year-old establishment.
